Marie-Jo-Thério
Marie-Jo Thério is a Canadian singer from Acadia region. Marie-Jo was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. All three of her brothers are musicians. When she was 10, she began taking piano lessons, and at 13 she was already writing songs.
At 17 Marie-Jo moved to Montreal and began literature studies at the University of Montreal. Shortly after, she enrolled in the Dramatic Arts Conservatory but was later thrown out. Since her passion for music was still very much alive, she started making her living by playing piano in small bars.Soon a well-known dramatist Michel Tremblay offered her a chance to audition for a role in the romantic opera «Nelligan». Director Claude Brassard loved her immediately and cast her as Gertrude, Nelligan's young sister. In 1990, she set up a band with her musician friends and produced a show at the theater La Licorne by herself. During the same year, Marie-Jo was part of the casting for Les Misérables, in which she was Cossette's and Éponine's understudy. She also played at various music festivals (Quebec, Caraquet, St-Malo, Lafayette, Manitoba) and reached the finals of the Granby Music Festival. During the next 3 years Marie-Jo had a part of a complex and confused teenager in the popular TV series «Chambres en ville» (1990). After that she left television in order to concentrate her efforts on music.1995 saw the release of her first album: «Comme de la musique». Daniel Lavoie participated in the album’s creation as a producer, musician and vocalist. Marie–Jo was awarded a «Felix» for this album in 1996. Her second album, entitled «La maline», was released in March of 2000 and the same year Marie–Jo created a show based on the album for her concert tour. Both the critics and the audiences were taken by Marie-Jo’s originality and «authenticity». The album even gained the «golden» status. After that the singer performed on different stages around the globe and also played in a few movies, including «The Book of Eve» (2002), which also starred Daniel Lavoie. In 2004 Marie-Jo participated in the gala «Jours de Plaines - Salut à Daniel Lavoie» at the Quebec’s Summer Festival.
In 2005 Marie-Jo released a new album, «Les matins habitables» which was released in France under the title «Arbre à fruits».In 2001 the singer released her first English-language album «Chasing Lydie».
